All letters may be submitted online by the references and the instructions for this process are included with the on-line application. The reference will be asked to write a letter, providing information regarding the applicant's maturity, dependability, and potential for teaching, in addition to evaluating the applicant's creative and scholarly achievement. All letters of reference submitted on-line are available for view by the School of Art + Design Graduate Office and forwarded to the review committees with all application material.

The academic record will be reviewed by the School of Art + Design Graduate Office and forwarded to the review committee with the application and additional applications materials also submitted on-line. If the undergraduate or graduate degree is not complete at the time of application, an official final transcript listing the degree and conferral date will be required of all applicants that are accepted to our programs and plan to enroll at this university for Fall Semester 2012. The final copy will be forwarded to the School of Art + Design Graduate Office.

Statements are uploaded in the Statement section in the on-line application. This material will be available for view by the School of Art + Design Graduate Office and forwarded to the review committee with all application material

About financial aid
The School of Art + Design offers several opportunities for financial support for graduate students. The applicant should check the appropriate boxes on the Graduate Application online.
The School of Art + Design encourages domestic applicants to apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for possible Federal Work Study (FWS) Graduate Assistantships. To be considered for this financial aid, applicants should file a FAFSA application electronically using the FAFSA website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Additional information regarding this financial aid can be found on the University of Illinois Office of Student Financial Aid (OFSA) website: www.osfa.illinois.edu The OFSA will notify applicants electronically if they are eligible for a FWS Graduate Assistantship.
The types of financial support provided by the School of Art and Design are:
Graduate Fellowships: A competitive award granted to degree candidates who have demonstrated high scholar and merit and awards. The Graduate Review Committee in the School of Art + Design and the University of Illinois Graduate College determines the candidates for all fellowship awards. A fellowship does not require service and the stipends range from $10,000 to $17,000 for the academic year. All fellowships include a waiver of tuition and a partial waiver of university student fees.
Graduate Appointments: Teaching Assistant, Graduate Assistant (often technical support), and Research Assistant positions are available each academic year. The Graduate Review Committee in the School of Art + Design determines the candidates for all positions. As with fellowships, all positions are competitive, and they are awarded to candidates that have demonstrated high scholar and merit. Currently a nine-month 25% graduate appointment offers a stipend which is currently $7,410.06 for the academic year. The appointment requires ten hours a week of service and a full waiver of tuition and partial waiver of university student fees. International Students may have to pass an EPI exam http://cte.illinois.edu/testing/oral_eng/main.html in order to be considered for a teaching appointment.
