Only complete applications will be considered for admission (include all collegiate transcripts — include high school transcripts and ACT/SAT scores if applicable [see Transfer Admission Requirements above]).
University of Illinois School of Art + Design Admissions Process

Portfolio Review
Submit the Fall 2010 Transfer Portfolio Review Request Form by March 1, 2010. On the form, in order of preference, select a maximum of 5 degree programs that you wish to be considered for application. Separate faculty panels representing each of the various programs review the portfolio of each applicant that checked their program. If you only select 1 program, only that program will review your application. Applicants who receive a positive review of the portfolio will progress to the second stage, the interview or other follow up procedure.
Submit your digital portfolio by March 1, 2010 using the School's Fall 2010 Transfer Portfolio Submission Form. If you encounter problems with the online form or have questions, contact Mark Avery at mavery@illinois.edu or 217-333-6632.
Portfolio Contents. The portfolio is a collection of your recent work that illustrates your ability for advanced study as an art and design practitioner, educator or historian. If you have strong works in a variety of media, consider including that range in your portfolio. Your images and objects tell us a great deal about your ideas and process. That information translates easily across all media, to all programs. The portfolio should consist of 10 examples of your recent work, and may include up to 2 movies (optional).
Portfolio Submission Guidelines:
- 10 required JPEG images, each of which is no larger than 2048x2048 and 500KB in size.
- Up to 2 movies (optional), each of which can be played with VideoLAN Client. No movie file should be longer than 1 minute in length and 50MB in size.
Art History applicants - see Fall 2010 Transfer Guidelines for the Admissions Process for the Art History Program (FAA) for additional information.
Criteria for Evaluation. Portfolios will be evaluated in terms of the quality of the candidates' skills, artistic perception, theoretical knowledge, and their sense of composition, form, imaginative imagery, technical skills, and ability to articulate and communicate ideas.
Interviews. Applicants whose portfolios have received a positive review from one or more programs may be required to participate in interviews or another follow up procedure conducted by faculty panels from the respective programs. Additional information regarding the interviews will be included in your portfolio acceptance email. Transfer students who are close enough to participate in this process in person (preferred) must sign up for an appointment with each program to which they are seeking admission. If you are not close enough to schedule an appointment in person, it is your responsibility to contact the interviewer indicated in your portfolio acceptance email within the stated timeframe to schedule a phone interview.
Notification of Acceptance
All offers for a place in the School of Art + Design depend on you meeting the University's entrance requirements along with a positive assessment of your portfolio. All acceptance notifications will be issued from the Office of Admissions and Records.
Inquiries regarding your admissions status should be directed to the Office of Admissions and Records. The School of Art + Design will not be able to respond to admissions status questions.
