FUNDING


The School of Art + Design is very fortunate to have several generous donors that contribute financially to sustain the education of undergraduate students. This support reflects their confidence in the excellence of the School. The types of assistance available range from awards the School initiates, to those students apply for, to those that faculty nominate students for. Listed below is a sampling.

Incoming Freshman Awards from the School of Art + Design

  • Tuition Waiver Awards for Incoming Freshmen

    The State of Illinois allocates more than $180,000 in tuition waiver funding to the School of Art + Design for distribution to incoming and current students on a merit basis. The amount of financial support and the number of waivers vary. During the admissions process, the portfolios of prospective students are reviewed by the Admissions Committee and tuition waiver recommendations are made based on the quality of the student's portfolio.

  • Clyde P. Davis Scholarship Fund

    This scholarship is for any incoming freshmen who has expressed an interest in Graphic Design and who comes from the greater Chicago area. The scholarship provides the student with $26,000 a year for four years provided he/she remains in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. During the admissions process, the portfolios of prospective students are reviewed by the Admissions committee and recommendations are made to the donor, Clyde P. Davis, who selects the finalist.

  • Lois Marie Orr Scholarship

    This scholarship is awarded to incoming students, based on the quality of their portfolio.

    During the admissions process, the portfolios of prospective students are reviewed by the Admissions Committee and scholarships are awarded.

  • All City (Chicago) Exhibition

    This scholarship is awarded to two incoming freshmen who have participated in the All City (Chicago) Exhibition. Portfolios are reviewed by faculty and scholarship recommendations are based on the quality of the student's portfolio.

Awards Applied for by Current Students

  • Tuition Waiver Awards for Continuing Students

These applications are reviewed by faculty on the Tuition Waiver Committee and tuition waivers are awarded based on merit only.

  • Clyde P. Davis Study Abroad Scholarship

    Up to four scholarships of $10,000 each are awarded to students in the School of Art + Design who have been accepted by an institution to study abroad for one semester or one year. There is a call for applications. These applications are reviewed by a faculty committee.

  • Mary C. McClellan Scholarship in Art

    This bi-annual award is given to graduating seniors to support their further research and artistic endeavors. There is a call for applications.

Faculty-Nominated Awards for Current Students:

  • Helen E. Platt Blake Award

    This award is presented each year to a junior in Painting to provide financial support and assistance with the purchase of supplies. Painting Program faculty members select the finalist.

  • James G. Hansen Scholarship Fund

    This scholarship is awarded each year to a sophomore in Industrial Design to provide assistance with tuition in their junior year. The faculty in Industrial Design select the finalist.

  • Hugh and Allie D. Hughston Enochs Memorial Award

    This award is presented each year to a graduating senior in the School of Art + Design and is based on talent and ability in art. Students are nominated by faculty in their program and the finalist is determined by the School's executive committee.

  • James R. and Dorothy E. Shipley Award

    This award is presented each year to a graduating senior in the School of Art + Design and is based on excellence. Students are nominated by faculty in their program and the finalist is determined by the School's Executive Committee.
