Art Education Minor
This minor does not lead to Illinois State Board of Education K-12 certification to teach art.
Requirements:
Students must complete a minimum of 16-20 hours. Students meet the following course requirements.
- 6 hrs of Required Art Education Foundation Courses
- 6-14 hrs of Electives from Art Education Division Offerings
- ART 140 Introduction to Art
- ARTE 260 Museums in Action
- ARTE 290 Art and Civil Society
- ARTE 391 Independent Study
- ARTE 402 Artistic Development
- ARTE 480 Popular Visual Culture
- 2-6 hrs of Electives from the School of Art and Design
- Art Education, Art History, Art Studio, New Media, Graphic and Industrial Design
Prerequisites for the minor:
For admission to the minor, students must apply to Art Education, must have a 2.5 minimum GPA, must submit a Statement of Intent and be approved by the Art Education Undergraduate Advisor, Robin Douglas. Students must retain a minimum GPA of 2.5 in order to remain in the minor.
Admission to the minor:
Robin Douglas, the Art Education Undergraduate Advisor and an Art Education faculty member, will monitor the admission process.
Additional information about declaring a minor is available on the Provost's site: Undergraduate Minors, Office of the Provost, University of Illinois. Students will need to download and print the Statement of Intent to Pursue a Campus-Approved Minor. Students will also need to complete the Minor's Modification Form if they are going to cancel their minor or if a class needs to be substituted.
Submit an updated copy of your DARS report along with the Statement of Intent to Pursue a Campus-Approved Minor to Robin Douglas for approval and signature. Submit the signed Statement of Intent form to the student's College office.
