Elephant Room Gallery is excited to invite artists Jennifer Cronin and Lauren Macklin as curators of “Back to our Foundations,” opening August 6th.
Life is chaotic, unpredictable, and hard to explain. Sometimes, you get so lucky to be surrounded by a group of people who help to puzzle over this messy world, and make you feel like you’re not alone. This show brings together former students of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Art and Design, consisting of friends and fellow-artists who grew together through art. While all of the artists in this show shared this common educational experience, many have followed a variety of different paths. But all have chosen to keep art as a vital part of their lives.
“Back to Our Foundations” will feature a wide range of styles and approaches, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation work. From investigating poverty and homelessness, to exploring celebrity culture, to questioning beauty, this show presents work that calls the viewer to spend time contemplating and questioning the world around them. Featured artists include Seana Higgins, Charity White, Jenna Kerndl, Clara Hoag, Laura Collins, Amanda Paulson, Lauren Macklin, Jennifer Cronin, Amanda Kowalski, Robbie Vermillion, Vivian Zapata, Carmen Egolf, Jordan McGirk, Jonathan Pacheco, Lauren Brescia, and Kelly Enskat.
“Back to Our Foundations” will open with a reception on Saturday, August 6th from 6:30– 9:30pm at Elephant Room Gallery’s new location in CC’s Art Garage at 2727 S. Mary St. The exhibition will run through August 20th with additional viewing hours Friday, August 12th &19th from 5:30-8pm, Saturday August 20th from 2-5pm, and by appointment.
