Deke Weaver is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art & Design’s New Media Program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. A writer-performer, video and graphic artist, his original award-winning interdisciplinary performances have been presented in film/video, dance, solo performance and experimental theater venues in New York, L.A., Scotland, Wales, Kansas City, Illinois, Minnesota, Seattle, Philadelphia, Dallas, Wyoming, Colorado, New England and throughout the Southwest and the San Francisco Bay Area. His work, described as “explosive” (San Francisco Weekly) and “brilliant” (Village Voice) has “handcuffed a secure storytelling knack to a performance style that pushes the energy envelope toward hyperventilating madness” (Sidewalk.com). A Creative Capital grant recipient and three-time winner of NEA regional grants in film/video making, a resident at Yaddo and Ucross and a four-time fellow at the MacDowell Colony, his video work has screened and broadcast in film/video festivals and on public television stations in Russia, Brazil, Australia, Europe and the United States.
